Mojave National Preserve - Kelso Dunes

Camping in Mojave National Preserve - Kelso Dunes

This first location is along Kelbaker road about 10 miles south of Kelso Depot. This location is very well know to people in the area. Expect to have other campers near by.

The first site is under shade trees. Very nice site for all rig sizes, even good for a group of three or four rigs. Nice fire pit and sitting area. Great view of Kelso Dunes.

There is a sign advising 4x4 only for sites further back and I agree. Get out and check for yourself to see if your rig can make it. We all know what is comfortable for us.

If you look closely there are two sites here at the dead end of the Kelso Dunes road. Hard packed dirt and can accommodate a few rigs of all sizes.

There is also one site a few hundred yard past the Kelso Dunes parking area to the left that has a nice hard pack area.

All these sites have fire rings. Remember camping is only allowed where you find existing fire rings. The ranger will ask you to move anywhere else. Trash cans are available at the Kelso Dunes parking area along with pit toilets. Remember to pack it in and pack it out. Nearest water/dump station is at the "Hole in the Wall" campground.

This is the view from these sites.
